    As one of the premier seaports in the United States, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) is committed to help prepare students for leadership positions in the goods movement industry. POLB awards $20,000 yearly in scholarships. Three scholarship awards of $5000 each are offered to students in the MAGL program and two scholarships awards of $2500 each are awarded to students in the GLS program.

    Martin Ruiz - 2015

    Martin Ruiz is a Transportation Supervisor at Prior to his current position, he worked for the past nine years in both Customer Service and Transportation. As he progressed through his career, he continued to go to school, attending Rio Hondo College. He enrolled in CITT's Global Logistics Specialist program in January 2015 with the goal of gaining a better understanding of the international transportation industry. He thanks his instructors in the program who have taught him the various operations involved in the industry. His enthusiam to travel to different parts of the world and hopes to one day combine his passion to travel with work. In addition to his work, Martin volunteers at various food bans to help serve the less fortunate throughout the year.

    Paige Lauren Rodriguez - 2015

    Paige Lauren Rodriguez comes from a family entrenched in the logistics industry. Her grandparents owned a transportation warehouse business and her parents both worked for a freight forwarding company. Since the early age of 13, she has been intrigued by the industry. Paige is currently employed at Roly’s Trucking in Irwindale, CA. She was brought on as a data entry clerk and after only eight months she was given the opportunity to work in the harbor division. Her responsibilities include handling import/export cargo, coordinating the moves between customers and carriers, and preparing necessary documentation for each transaction.  Currently she oversees the special accounts within the company; which include Home Depot, Dial/Henkel, and Truxton. Paige enrolled in the Global Logistics Specialist program at California State University, Long Beach to expand her knowledge in the transportation industry and to specialize in import and export cargo. She is very motivated to learn and continue to advance her career within the industry.

    Julio Cesar Pinto Criollo - 2015

    Julio Cesar Pinto Criollo is originally from Peru. He and his two other brothers were raised in the city of Arequipa and in 1990 he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the Universidad Catolica Santa Maria. One year later he completed a program specializing in Finance at Universidad Catolica de Lima. He has ten years’ professional experience working for companies in Customs brokerage, Imports, North Tel and also in the mining industry.

    In February of 2001 he made a life changing decision and moved to California with the dream of creating a better life for himself. He enrolled in Cypress College and started taking classes to improve his English.  He found working in Sales an easy transition for him. First, he worked in Real Estate, processing Loans and later in the retail industry. Currently he is the Sales Manager of The Mattress Store in Torrance California.

    Julio is expected to complete the GLS program in Spring 2015 and said, “I chose to enroll in the GLS program because after careful research and obtaining a better understanding about Logistics I developed a new educational and career interest. I have decided it would be an area of education that I want to grow professionally and develop a better understanding of logistics management and international trade of goods…I am very excited to apply the skills that I am learning in the GLS program into my career objectives and goals.”

    Julio’s goal is to work in the logistics industry specifically in the area of Supply Chain Management.
