Mary Mann, the principle of Plum, and Chinese volunteer teacher Yue Hu from CI at CSULB, kicked off the festivities. The opening ceremony featured amazing performances by students who are learning Chinese, and included songs about how to say hello, count numbers, learn the Chinese zodiac show, and celebrate the Chinese New Year.

A variety of interesting cultural-themed booths included activities such as traditional Chinese painting, games, language learning, Chinese calligraphy, paper-cutting art, face masks, and using chopsticks. Students had great fun experiencing these aspects of Chinese culture as they collected stamps from each booth.

Next, the students enjoyed delicious Chinese food sponsored by CI and Panda Express. The exciting conclusion of the event was a prize drawing, which resulted in some lucky gift winners.

At this event and others like it, CI volunteer teachers like Yue Hu teach Chinese language in local schools, and also promote Chinese culture students and community members alike.
