Confucius Institutes are non-profit public institutions overseen by the Office of Chinese Language Council International, also known as Hanban. Hanban is affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, with the goals of promoting Chinese language and culture. Confucius Institutes also support Chinese language teaching internationally, and facilitate cultural exchange programs.
The Institutes are established and operated in collaboration between two educational institutions – one from China and one from a foreign country. CSULB’s Confucius Institute, established in Spring 2015, partners with Hebei Institute of Foreign Languages (HIFL) from Qinhuangdao, Hebei.
