As a successful Long Beach businessman, Trent Bryson is an ideal instructor for CCPE’s Human Resources Management Certificate Program. In addition to being CEO of Bryson Financial Group, a leading employee benefits consulting firm, Trent is also a Certified Financial Planner. So he has plenty of experience to draw upon in the classroom, where he instructs students on the intricacies of a range of HR management duties, from hiring new staff and handling employee benefits, to helping top executives with strategic planning.
But Trent didn’t appear out of nowhere with these skills. In fact, he would probably agree that much of his success is due to the guidance of his father, Rick Bryson, who founded Bryson Financial in 1969 and is celebrating 48 years in business in Long Beach this year. So by the time Trent joined the agency in 2001, his father already had decades of tried-and-true business acumen under his belt. Together, they have advanced their company into a powerhouse that provides employee benefits, business insurance, business retirement services, and wealth management for other organizations in the Long Beach business community.
In recognition of these achievements, Rick and Trent have been presented with the prestigious 2017 City National Bank Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and were honored recently at a Long Beach Chamber of Commerce luncheon on April 27. The father and son team were recognized for not only their financial success, but for their strong commitment to philanthropic work as well. Rick and Trent were presented with the award in front of 600 guests, including members of Mayor Robert Garcia's office and executives from prominent Long Beach businesses.
“They are both are true entrepreneurs,” said Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Randy Gordon. “Their company, Bryson Financial, is respected for innovative client service and as an exemplary workplace for employees. We are proud to present the City National Bank Entrepreneur of the Year Award to these business role models.”
Besides working with his father at Bryson Financial, Trent has also served as past president of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), Long Beach; and currently serves as a National Taskforce leader for the 70,000-member association. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Memorial Hospital and the Board of Directors for Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach.
All of this experience feeds into Trent’s passion for teaching at CSULB, helping students prepare for careers in the HR management profession. Developed by experts in the human resources profession, the Human Resources Management Certificate program covers all essential aspects of the subject as it functions in both service and manufacturing environments.
