The Carolyn Martin Outstanding Instructor Award is named after Carolyn Martin, one of the founding instructors of the GLS program. She taught the Marine Terminal Operations session of the GLS, which included conducting site visits to her terminal. She was also the originator of the Marine Terminal Operations (MTOP) program and worked with CITT to draft the initial curriculum. She taught both in-person and online and was an active member of the CITT Policy and Steering Committee.

The Marine Terminal Operations Professional Program was launched in March 2010. The successful launch of this unique program owes a debt of gratitude to the many industry experts and  leaders who serve as instructors and advisors. In 2014, the MTOP Oustanding Instructor Award was renamed the Carolyn Martin Outstanding Instructor Award. Every year, CITT will recognize an outstanding MTOP instructor with this award.
