“Attending the BALA program has made me a better communicator and writer. The ability to communicate and write well are essential skills needed for my career. The BALA cohort and I formed a close bond, and my favorite instructor was [BALA Director] Dr. Maythee Rojas, because she required a lot from me, which pushed me to do my best.”

"I was motivated to enroll in the BALA Program because it offers an accelerated yet rigorous degree path that is flexible in terms of class meeting times that works very well for working adults. The program is great because we have access to excellent faculty with a small cohort of dedicated, motivated, and mature students that bring a wide variety of backgrounds, experience, and perspective into the classroom."--Peter Amstutz, Director of Architecture and Infrastructure, Defense Contract, Management Agency Information Technology
"I wanted to finish what I started over six years ago, in order to better market myself after being laid off three times. I love the cohort style, the small class size, and the guaranteed classes and no-hassle schedule."--Thomas Cowley, Private Security Guard, Universal Protection Services
"I wanted to complete my Bachelor's degree at an actual CSU campus, but the class schedules didn't coordinate with my work schedule. When I heard that CSULB offered this program for working adults with evening and weekend classes I was interested in finding out more about the program as it seemed that it was the perfect opportunity for me to continue my education. What motivated me after attending an information session was that the hours worked for me. It's fast paced. I liked the sound of being a part of a cohort and the classes are held on campus versus a continuation school type of building. In addition to the courses we are studying, I really enjoy the camaraderie we have amongst the cohort. We are able to count on each other if ever one of us needs help by forming study groups. At the end of it all, not only do we finally complete our education, but we earn our degree from Cal State Long Beach and get to participate in the commencement ceremony. We all may have different reasons for joining, but we all have the same goal of completing our education."--Izayadeth (Iza) Garcia, Information Technology (IT) Consultant, Public Sector
“The BALA program offers a consistent schedule and predetermined classes. This structure definitely helped me be successful. The BALA program offers a unique support structure in that each cohort group takes their classes together. This provides an environment that allows students to share, learn, and grow together. I enjoyed the process of earning my degree through the BALA program and I have been enriched by the academic material.”--Suzanne Koehnlein, Single Subject Teacher, English
"With a wide variety of Liberal Arts courses offered through the BALA program, I never imagined getting a degree would be fun, yet challenging. Engaging with other students and professors in this program has been a life-changing learning experience for me."--Gina Montolin, Paralegal, Worker's Compensation Defense Firm
