Professional Designation Program

THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY BEING REVISED

This comprehensive training program was developed by the Center for International Trade and Transportation at California State University, Long Beach in collaboration with Marine Terminal Operators (MTOs). The program covers all aspects of terminal operations and increases career opportunities for individuals who either seek entry or advancement into this dynamic industry. Students will gain the critical knowledge and skills required by marine terminal operators worldwide to thrive in this highly competitive environment.

The Marine Terminal Operations Professional (MTOP™) Professional Designation program is taught by industry experts and structured in a modular format allowing participants to select training areas of interest or to complete all course to earn the Marine Terminal Operations Professional Designation. The designation documents the graduate’s proficiency for either entry level or existing positions in marine terminal operations. This core of knowledge and skills will minimize on the job training requirements and significantly enhances any existing in-house training programs at terminals.

Foundations in Global Trade course series

  • These three courses can be taken individually, and will give students an introduction to the intermodal transportation industry while providing the foundation required for the Marine Terminal Operations program:
    • Global Freight Distribution Overview
    • Public Policy, Regulatory Environment, and Enforcement
    • Innovations in Technology & Operations

 

Marine Terminal Operations Specialist track

  • Learn about the nuances of marine terminal operations and related industries.
    • Foundations in Global Trade series (three courses listed above)
    • Management/Longshore Labor Relations
    • Marine Terminal Operations – Break Bulk, RoRo, Bulk, and Cruise Terminals

 

Marine Terminal Operations Professional Designation

  • In order to earn a Marine Terminal Operations Professional Designation, you will build on the knowledge gained in the Foundations in Global Trade series, as well as the MTO specialization track.
  • A final capstone project gives students the opportunity to demonstrate the application of critical thinking and other skills learned in the previous courses. This final project may only be taken once the Foundations in Global Trade course series and MTO specialization track are completed, or scheduled to be concurrently completed in the same semester.
    • Foundations in Global Trade courses (three courses listed above)
    • Specialist Track courses (two additional courses listed above)
    • Capstone Project – Developing and Implementing an Integrated Logistics Plan for a Terminal Development Project for Marine Terminal Operations
