The Global Logistics Professional (GLP) program is designed in a flexible format to meet the unique training needs of individuals at various stages of their careers. Courses can be taken individually or in the entire sequence in order to earn the GLP professional designation. Taught by industry experts, the focused curriculum provides updated, practical information that requires students to think critically and research topics that will expand their understanding of the industry. Students work under the direction of instructors who also act as industry mentors with real-world experience, while additional opportunities are also available to network with professionals from different segments of the supply chain industry.
Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to receive a Digital Badge from CSULB’s College of Professional and International Education. Each Digital Badge is embedded with a link to secure and specific information confirming that the participant has obtained the necessary skills and competencies as described in the program. Felicia C. Alexander has over 20 years of logistics and supply chain management experience in international business development, sales, project management, and operations management. Prior to joining Panalpina, Felicia served as the Business Development Director for the Health Life Sciences Sector for the Western Region at DHL Global Forwarding, and received the company’s Sales Person of the Year Award. Her previous experience includes organizations such as Ryder Integrated Logistics, Stirling Enterprise Real Estate Development Firm, and The Port of Oakland. Currently, she sits on the International Board of Directors serving as a the Pacific Southwest Regional Advisor for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). She earned her bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara and a master’s from John F. Kennedy University.

Joe Artino started his career at UPS in 1995 as a peak season Driver Helper, based out of Newbury Park, CA. He worked his way through various positions in Operations and Sales, becoming an International/Air Specialist out of Van Nuys. Soon after, he was promoted to International Account Manager, and then Senior Account Manager out of Gardena, CA. Following eight years of selling and managing many of the company’s SoCal District customers, he was promoted to Director of Global Accounts in 2014, and was assigned to the Nike account. Joe has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from University of San Diego.

Jeff Cribbs started Fairgrounds Transportation in 2008 as a full-service 3PL transportation provider, and recently added international and trade show divisions to his company service offerings. In 2015, he started Precision Logistics with two partners and provides warehousing, pick and pack, and fulfillment out of multiple locations across the U.S. Jeff was previously the Director of Sales for Daylight Transport, where he designed and taught the Selling and Account Management Skills training course for sales representatives. Jeff also recently acted as a consultant for The Dependable Companies, helping to merge five different independent divisions into a single marketing strategy. Jeff has a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering Technology with a focus on Robotics from CSULB.

In his role at POLA, George P. Cummings is responsible for oversight of budgets, procurement, personnel, and internal auditing. Additionally, he oversees the policy and legal research unit and the facility security unit. In his former position with POLA, George served as Director of Homeland Security, where his responsibilities include assessing port threats and vulnerabilities and coordinating appropriate response actions. He managed homeland security infrastructure development projects and directed emergency preparedness activities and port recovery planning. George served 21 years as a commissioned officer with the U.S. Coast Guard prior to his retirement in 2003. He is an alumnus of and instructor in the GLP program, and received the GLS George Marshall Favorite Instructor award in Fall 2010.

Sue Dexter is currently a PhD candidate in Urban Planning and Development at the University of Southern California. Her research interests include transportation planning and infrastructure, freight, and environmental policy. She was previously a Program Manager at Toyota Motor North America for 26 years, where she specialized in broad-scale distribution and system development projects and coordinated all aspects of parts distribution center construction, design, and launch. She is a certified Toyota Production Systems instructor and kaizen leader. Sue has a Master’s degree in Operational Research from the London School of Economics, and currently serves on the Advisory Board for Cabrillo High School’s Academy of Global Logistics (AGL) program.

Dr. Pearl Dytuco is responsible for global logistics operations at Skyworks Solutions headquartered in Irvine, California. She has 32 years of experience in international trade, compliance, and operations. Pearl’s educational accomplishments include a Doctoral degree in Business Administration (California Southern University), Master’s in Business Administration (University of Redlands), Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (University of Santo Tomas), Global Logistics Specialist Certification (CSULB), and Supply Chain Management Certification (Pennsylvania State University). Pearl is a Six Sigma Green Belt professional and a licensed U.S. Customs Broker.

At ReTrans, Steven Finley is responsible for all sales and marketing, operations, carrier negotiations, and billing. Mr. Finley has held various positions with other intermodal companies and trucking companies, in addition to being Traffic Manager for a Fortune 500 company. Mr. Finley started his transportation career in 1970. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1977 with a BA in Political Science. Steve served as President of the Los Angeles Transportation Club in 2005 and Chairman in 2006.

Dan Gardner has over 20 years of experience in the third-party logistics business, where he has held CEO-level and senior management positions with companies including Ocean World Lines, Fritz Companies, and DHL Global Forwarding. He was the founder and president of Trade Facilitators, Inc., a supply chain consulting and executive search firm. Dan also taught Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management at both The University of Miami and Florida International University Graduate Business Schools. He has an MBA from the University of Miami and holds multiple professional industry certifications. Dan is also a widely published author and journalist, with numerous articles and books to his credit.

As a member of the CTO Office at Volvo, Dr. Aravind Kailas strengthens innovation and competence in digitized trucking topics and helped establish the company’s fully functional California office. He has spearheaded Volvo’s technology policy and outreach efforts for connected and autonomous vehicles, and initiated all truck platooning R&D activities in North America. He has previously held positions at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, QUALCOMM, Inc., DOCOMO Innovations, Inc., and General Electric. He is an award-winning and internationally-published expert, and has earned degrees in Applied Mathematics and Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Georgia Institute of Technology.

Mette B. Karapetian’s work experience includes ocean carriers and steamship agents in the U.S. and Europe. Mette is one of the founding instructors of the GLS program and has taught there for the last 15 years. She currently serves on the Capstone Evaluation Panel, and is the GLS Online Facilitator and Capstone Advisor. She is a graduate of the A.P. Moller Shipping School, Copenhagen, and has a Masters in Business Administration from CSULB.
Mette Bjornholt Karapetian, Vice President of Global Accounts at North America Shipco Transport, Inc.
Biju Kewalram is the former co-CEO of Vanguard Logistics Services, a leading global NVOCC, where he spent more than a decade in various capacities. His previous international experience includes positions as CEO of logistics application developer FreightSoft; CIO of NACA Logistics; and COO for Vanguard Logistics. He has expertise in areas including technology systems for logistics and freight movement that help businesses increase efficiency. He is a strong proponent of the symbiosis between operations, customer service, and technology.
Brandon Lecou manages multiple activities at ANL, including U.S. Break Bulk pricing and feasibility; and is the Senior Manager of Ports and Project Cargo for ANL’s Oceania operations. He entered the logistics industry as a manager with McKesson Pharmaceutical distribution, where he gained experience in Pick/Pack operations, Automation, and ILWU labor management. Then, as an Assistant Operations manager at Pier 400, he ran APM terminal’s container yard and vessel departments before becoming their Break Bulk manager. He then secured a position with Hamburg Sud Shipping Lines as a Regional Operations Manager, where he managed multiple marine terminals on the West Coast. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from CSULB.

Ebon Loeb currently oversees the process excellence development and training strategy for the Pacific Gulf Division of Ports America, and helps guide the project management activities of 19 different terminals in California, Washington, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi by using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies. Ebony started with Ports America as a front-line superintendent in 2007, working with the Rail, Planning, Equipment, Customer Service and Yard Operations.

In addition to his role at SoCal Gas, Kevin Maggay also works at BNSF Railway as the Assistant Director of Environmental Operations, where he oversees strategic and technical air quality initiatives in 28 Western U.S. states. His skills include strategic communication and stakeholder engagement to inform policy makers on technical issues. Kevin provides input on policy and development for community groups, NGOs, industry groups, media, and regulatory agencies such as CARB, SCAQMD, and EPA Region IX. He graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies, with an emphasis in Business. He also attended the GLP program at CSULB.

At RJ Learning Group, Bob helps organizations to improve their sales process, sales effectiveness, overall sales productivity, and post-sale customer experience. Bob was a finalist for “Best Sales Trainer” at the American Business Awards, and graduated from CSULB with a degree in Journalism.

Cameron Roberts has more than 30 years of experience in international trade. His practice areas include customs law, export compliance, domestic and international transportation law, maritime law, trade, and insurance issues. He is a member of numerous customs, international trade, and legal associations. He is a past President of the Foreign Trade Association and Harbor Transportation Club. He earned his B.A. degree in political science and international relations from CSULB, and his JD degree (cum laude) from Seattle University School of Law. Mr. Roberts is admitted to practice in California and Washington, the Court of International Trade, and the Federal Maritime Commission.

Kevin Turner specializes in the sale, lease, and tenant representation of office, industrial, and R&D properties. He is highly experienced and qualified in the creation and execution of marketing campaigns, financial and market analysis, site selection, lease evaluation, multi-tenant evaluations, facility counseling, land development transactions, and sale and lease negotiations. He currently serves as the Ports and Logistics Practice Group Leader for Cushman & Wakefield and Steering Committee Leadership Council for Cushman & Wakefield Global Supply Chain Consulting. Kevin is a frequent panelist and speaker at industry events, and is a graduate of the GLS program.

Dave Wear has years of successful in-depth management of diverse commerce transportation and operational experience within the Container Transportation Operation industry. In his role at ONE, he works with operations, trade management, import/export, intermodal, equipment, and customer care departments. Dave previously worked as a general manager at Ports American and as a regional manager at Mi-Jack Products/In-Terminal Services. Dave is a graduate of CSU, Fullerton and has obtained secondary education and teaching experience at CSULB.
Dave Wear, Director, West Coast Port Operations, Ocean Network Express (ONE)
Tonnie White has over 25 years of industry experience, including working on the dock as an office clerical assistant at the terminals as well as customer service, operations, and sales roles with Australia-New Zealand Direct Line, Orient Overseas Container Lines, China Shipping Container Lines), Matson Navigation, Hanjin Shipping, and CMA-CGM. At Hyundai Merchant Marines, she is dedicated to sales for regional and corporate level accounts; maintaining the regional account base; and acting as liaison between clients and company departments to ensure customer service.
Phillip T. Wright has more than 25 years of experience in marine operations. He was previously the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Total Terminals International LLC; District Sales Manager of the West Coast of Zim American Integrated Shipping Services Co., Inc.; and Assistant Vice President of Operations for Hanjin Shipping Company. As a graduate of the California Maritime Academy, Mr. Wright holds an Unlimited Third Mates License and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nautical Industrial Technology. He is also responsible for the HAZMAT training program for personnel in the western region. He has been a GLP instructor at CSULB since the program’s 1997 debut.
The GLP Program is a professional designation program designed to provide a comprehensive overview of what’s involved in international logistics. It teaches students how goods are effectively moved around the world, and the various entities involved.
The GLP program is offered twice a year, starting either in January or July.
The cost is $4,500.00.
The GLP Program is a non-credit professional designation program issued upon successful completion of three courses, and a final team project.
You must meet attendance and/or participation requirements for each course and pass all the quizzes with 75% or better. For the online classes, you must meet the minimum points required for participation, which usually includes participation in a discussion board and/or submitting responses to a discussion question for each topic.
No, courses are structured in a flexible format to allow students to select courses or a group of courses that fit their individual training needs. All courses can be taken in any order, with the exception of the final Capstone Project, which must be completed concurrently with all other courses or completed afterwards.
The Global Logistics Specialist (GLS) provides in-depth information on different aspects of the transportation industry, resulting in a certificate that signifies your new knowledge and skills. The GLS is earned by completing the three courses:

The Global Logistics Professional (GLP) program includes everything in the GLS educational track, plus a demonstration of what you learned in a final capstone project. By analyzing a fictitious business case study as part of a team, you can earn the professional designation title.
In order to register for the Capstone class, you must complete all of the other courses prior to your enrollment in the Capstone Project OR be concurrently enrolled to complete all other classes in the same semester as the Capstone Project class.
No. The entire program must be completed within two years, because the curriculum is constantly changing along with the industry. If two or more years have passed since you last took classes, you will be required to re-enroll in the entire program.
The Capstone is a team project where you analyze a fictitious, fast-fashion company we call Bella Fashions. In this project, you work as part of a team to identify 3 to 5 solutions for Bella Fashion’s current situation.
You will deliver your proposal in an oral presentation to an industry panel. You will also submit a written report. Upon completion of all courses for the GLP, including the Capstone project course, you will earn the Global Logistics Professional Designation.

Learning extends beyond the classroom, and we encourage students to learn more by attending industry events. Also, the program is taught by instructors from the industry, and you will also take classes with students who work in the industry, which gives you excellent networking opportunities.
International students may participate in the GLP for International Students program. In this program, international students can take GLP courses along with additional classes through the American Language Institute or the Open University, in order to meet full-time student requirements and be eligible for a student visa.
