Project management is a skill that is integral to every industry and profession. Regardless of your position or job title, your ability to manage projects assigned to you will lead directly to the success of your organization and your career.   

The Project Management Fundamentals program will benefit those in a wide range of disciplines, including healthcare, IT, and more. This thoroughly detailed program provides training and tools in key aspects of project management, and is in alignment with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide: Sixth Edition).

Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to receive a Digital Badge from CSULB’s College of Professional and International Education. Each Digital Badge is embedded with a link to secure and specific information confirming that the participant has obtained the necessary skills and competencies as described in the program. The badge also includes the participant’s name, the course title, and date of completion. NOTE: This program is not intended as a preparation course for project management professional certification. The content is aligned with the PMI’s PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition.

  • How to initiate the project, identify stakeholders, set goals, and develop the charter 
  • Developing a Project Management Plan
  • Managing expectations and the scope of the project
  • How to schedule cost management 
  • The differences in Quality Management, Resource Management, Communications Management, and Risk Management
  • Negotiation techniques
  • Scope, time and cost baselines
  • Monitoring and controlling all aspects of the Project Management Plan, including completion and termination
  • Participate in individual and team activities utilizing proven Project Management tools and techniques 
  • Immediately acquire implementable skills and methods
  • Apply your skills learned from course work to case-study scenarios
  • Taught by a Project Management Professional (PMP) and expert in the field

  • Compete all course work (13 class meetings)
  • Design, develop, and present a group project that illustrates the key aspects of each lesson (materials and information presented in each class will directly relate to the course project)
  • Please note: To receive the Certificate, Digital Badge, and CEUs in the current semester, a maximum of one class meeting may be missed. To complete the program in the semester, additional absences may be made up at a fee of $50 per class meeting, subject to availability.
